See which keyboard shortcuts you can use with the highlighted application, and search for hotkeys directly from the menu bar, with this neat little app
Most apps allow you to use keyboard shortcuts to perform various actions, but trying to remember all the possible combinations is not exactly easy, especially if you move back and forth between multiple applications.
Pretzel is a small, open-source tool that shows you which key combinations you can press to trigger various actions in the highlighted app. It only runs in the menu bar, and it can be brought up with a simple hotkey.
See the available keyboard shortcuts for various apps
Here's how Pretzel works: while it is running, simply click the app's menu bar icon when a supported application is in the foreground. It will list every keyboard shortcut you can use to trigger various actions.
Alternatively, you can just use a customizable hotkey to open the shortcuts list. Then, you can either browse through the list or use the search function to filter them and find something in particular.
Supports quite a few apps, but more need to be added
Of course, a tool like Pretzel is only useful if the shortcuts you need have already been added to its database. The app currently supports a decent number of products, but it is clear that many more need to be added to the list, which you can check out here.
While the app is well designed, and it worked great during our tests, the shortcuts database needs to be a lot more extensive, as many users will no doubt be disappointed to find that the software they work with is not supported.
Unobtrusive and quite stylish
Since it only runs in the menu bar, Pretzel will not clutter your Dock or get in your way. It includes a Night Mode that Mojave users will certainly appreciate, and it is about as intuitive as an app can get.
In the end, this tool is quite promising, as it can help you keep track of the numerous keyboard shortcuts your applications put at your disposal. However, it supports a rather limited number of products at present, so we hope the database will be expanded in future releases.
