Remove Mac or Windows specific hidden files that take up unnecessary space on your external drives and are visible on media devices
USBclean helps you get rid of system-specific hidden files that are automatically created on your USB drives and become visible when the external disks are connected to a media device or to a computer using a different operating system.
The cleaner comes with drag and drop support and automatically ejects the drive when done.
Clean your USB drives by removing the hidden junk files
Both macOS and Windows operating systems create hidden files on your USB drives designed to help them perform searches, to access data faster, and so on. However, these files remain on the drive even after you eject the disk and take up space unnecessarily.
At the same time, if you use the USB on a different platform, the files might become visible and interfere with your playlists and so on. USBclean is a simply macOS tool designed to fix the problem.
Once you drag and drop an external drive on top of the USBclean main window, the utility will quickly delete the .DS_Store, Thumbs.db, .Spotlight, and Trash files. In addition, via the USBclean Preferences, you can also choose to eliminate the .appdisk and the Thumbs.db Windows file.
Effortlessly keep all your drives free from junk files
USBclean can be successfully used whenever you need to eject an external drive because the utility first cleans the disk and then automatically disconnects it from your Mac. To verify if the cleanup took place before ejecting, you can choose to send the data to the Log file.
To better integrate with your workflow, USBclean also allows you to drop USBs on top of it’s Dock icon, or you can enable its status bar menu and renounce the Dock item altogether.
Within the USBclean menu bar, you can see all the currently connected external drives and start the cleanup procedure with a simple mouse click. Furthermore, you can also open the app’s window and navigate to the Preferences just as easily.
